An 2021 article published in the International Journal of Epidemiology on behalf of INEP called for epidemiological literacy as an ability that is essential for public dialogue and policy decisions for health protection measures and their implementation in communities. The current project develops a further manuscript for the International Journal of Epidemiological presenting definitions of key epidemiological concepts from widely agreed sources together with considerations to be aware of and to be highlighted in the public dialogue to foster common understanding of epidemiological concepts and appropriate interpretation of the figures. This is particularly addressed to those with roles in science and health communication.
