ACE-INEP virtual symposium - recording available
The American College of Epidemiology teamed up with INEP for an inaugural annual gathering of ACE and INEP members, 05-06 April 2022. For this first year, the theme was Social Equity, Climate Change, and COVID.
Day 1 was chaired by Professor Camille Raynes-Greenow, University of Sydney (INEP Past-Chair) and Dr Jan Eberth, University of South Caroline. During this session, we heard a fanstatic keynote from Professor Heidi Larson from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine on Legitimacy of Science/Disinformation/Attacks on Science. This was followed by a panel discussion on Universal Health Care and COVID-19, with experts from around the globe, including Professor Rachel Kiddell-Monroe from McGill University, Dr Shams El Airfeen, from ICDDRB in Bangladesh, and Professor Aluisio Barros, from Universidade Federal de Pelotas.

Day 2 included another timely keynote from Dr Kari Nadeau from Standford Univeristy on Climate Change and Global Health. This was followed by a panel discussion on Social Equity, Climate Change, and COVID-19, with a Question and Answer from experts across the globe, including Dr. Wael Al-Delaimy, University of California San Diego, Dr. Ana M. Vicedo-Cabrera, University of Bern, and Prof. Julie Leask, University of Sydney.
Finally, the meeting closed with an enthralling roundtable discussion on Future Action bringing together the themes of the symposium and identifying priorities for epidemiology in policy to address the wicked public health problems of our team. This discussion included experts from around the globe, including early career epidemiologist Dr. Bertha Hidalgo from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as Dr. Melissa Bondy, Stanford University; Dr. Kari Nadeau, Stanford Universit; and Associate Professor Katy Bell, University of Sydney, and was moderated by Kathryn Gwiazdon, JD, NIU Law.
